Rare-breed meat supplier Huntsham Heritage Meats has been purchased by Suffolk farming business David Black & Son Ltd, securing the future of one of the UK’s best-known producers of traditional breed pork, beef and lamb.
The purchase links the long-established farming business with a specialist meat brand that supplies Michelin-starred restaurants, leading chefs and discerning consumers across the UK. The move reflects growing demand from chefs and consumers for high-quality British meat with clear provenance.

Managing Director, Stephen Urwin.
Blacks of Bacton has farmed in Suffolk since 1898 and today operates a diversified rural business including arable farming, pig production and rural enterprises. The purchase of Huntsham Heritage Meats strengthens the company’s presence in premium food supply and provenance-driven meat production.
Managing Director Stephen Urwin said the move reflects increasing demand from chefs and consumers for high-quality, traceable British meat.
“Chefs and customers are increasingly interested in provenance, breed and farming practices. In recent years, many chefs and produce buyers have returned to heritage livestock breeds because of their distinctive flavour, natural marbling and slower growth rates. Breeds such as Middle White pigs and Longhorn cattle are widely valued in professional kitchens for their depth of flavour and consistency, making them particularly suited to modern British menus that emphasise provenance, sustainability and whole-animal cookery. Huntsham Heritage Meats has developed an exceptional reputation in those areas, with the ability to produce speciality products like suckling pig or dry aged pork and beef and we are excited to support the next stage of its growth.”
Huntsham Heritage Meats was established by Richard and Rosamund Vaughan and has built a loyal following among chefs for its Middle White pork, Longhorn beef and Ryeland lamb. The Vaughan family has decided to step back from the business after nearly thirty years developing the brand.
Richard Vaughan said:
“Huntsham has always been about producing exceptional meat from traditional breeds and supplying customers who truly value quality. Blacks understand that philosophy and we are delighted the business will continue in safe hands.”
The company will trade under the Huntsham Heritage Meats name and supply restaurants and private customers as before.
For Blacks of Bacton, this forms part of a broader strategy to build stronger links between farming and food, bringing high-quality British produce from field to fork.

Described by Jamie Oliver as the “Oscars of the food world”, the awards were created in 2000 to celebrate the people and organisations that produce and promote the best of British food.
I get my Longhorn beef aged for 33 days and my Middle White pigs – the best crackling this side of heaven with a thick, white ribbon of fat – through the post from Richard Vaughan at Huntsham. The beef is unparallelled.
